Optional: A handmade charm or rune of inspiration, Ansuz, Kenaz, or Wunjo
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Altar
Arrange your candle, instrument, and books upon the altar.
If desired, include an apple or floral token to honor Idunn and the union of creativity and vitality.
Light the candle and let its flame symbolize the spark of inspiration.
Step 2: Invocation of Bragi
Ring the bell or strike a gentle chord on your instrument.
Speak aloud:
“Bragi, silver-tongued and wise,Whose words weave joy and truth,Come to this place of warmth and song.Inspire my voice, that my heart may speak with art divine.”
Close your eyes and imagine golden runes spiraling through the air, settling gently upon your lips and hands.
Step 3: Musical and Literary Offerings
Play a short tune on your instrument, even if simple—let it be sincere.
Place a favorite book or poem upon the altar, saying:
“Words endure beyond the flame and frost—Bragi, accept this tribute to the eternal art.”
If with others, each participant may recite a favorite passage, poem, or lyric in honor of the god.
Step 4: Words of Poetry and Song
Read or perform an original poem, chant, or song. Speak with heart, not perfection.
As your voice fills the space, imagine your words weaving into the air, forming threads of light connecting you to Bragi’s divine presence.
Step 5: Offering of Gratitude
Raise your cup of mead or cider and say:
“To Bragi, keeper of melody and tale—May your wisdom flow through every word I share.”
Take a sip, then pour a small portion upon the earth or into a bowl as an offering.
Step 6: Closing the Rite
Speak softly:
“Bragi, bard of the gods, I thank you for your song.May my words and deeds honor your art.”
