Ingredients
A few grains of wheat, oats, or barley
A small loaf of bread or baked good
Fresh flowers, herbs, or greenery
Optional: a personal item connected to family, such as a photo or keepsak
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Space
Begin by cleansing your space with gentle music or incense of your choice.
Place the golden candle at the center of your altar, surrounding it with offerings of grain, bread, and flowers.
Ring your bell or chime softly, saying:
“With peace in my heart and light in my hands, I welcome Sif, lady of golden harmony.”
Step 2: Invocation of Sif
Light the candle and speak aloud:
“Golden-haired Sif, guardian of peace and hearth,I call upon your grace this Yule night.Teach me to walk the path of discernment,To sow harmony where discord has grown,And to nurture the bonds that weave us as one.”
Pause and breathe deeply, envisioning the glow of Sif’s presence spreading like sunlight through your space.
Step 3: The Act of Frith
Take a moment to reflect on your relationships—family, friends, community—and how you can strengthen them.
On your slip of paper, write one act of kindness, reconciliation, or service you will carry out in the coming days.
Hold the paper to your heart and say:
“By Sif’s wisdom and the peace she bestows,I commit to frith and understanding. My words shall heal, my actions shall unify.”
Place the slip beneath the candle or in your offering bowl.
Step 4: Offering to Sif
Hold up the bread or baked good and say:
“Lady of the Harvest, I offer this nourishmentIn gratitude for harmony and renewal.”
Break a small piece and place it in the bowl as an offering. The rest may be shared among your household to honor familial unity.
Step 5: Meditation on Discernment
Sit quietly before the candle and meditate on Sif’s gifts.
Visualize her hair of gold as fields of wheat swaying gently in the breeze—each stalk representing a relationship in your life.
Reflect on how you can listen, speak, and act with greater understanding in the days to come.
Step 6: Closing the Rite
When you feel ready, ring the bell three times and say:
“Sif, bride of thunder and keeper of peace,I thank you for your presence and grace.May harmony dwell within my hearth and heart,Now and in all the seasons to come.”
Allow the candle to burn safely for a while, or extinguish it, saying:
