1 Chalice or drinking horn
1 Small bowl
1 Representation of Mjölnir (hammer, pendant, or drawing)

½cupmead or ale
1clovegarlic
1small onion or leek
A few oak leaves or acorns
Optional: model goat or small carved animalsymbolizing Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr, Thor’s chariot beasts
Rainwater or consecrated water
Instructions
Step 1: Preparing the Sacred Space
Cleanse your ritual space with incense or saltwater.
Place Thor’s symbols upon your altar—the hammer, oak, and storm elements.
Light the red or gold candle, saying:
“I light this flame in honor of Thor, keeper of thunder and protector of the realms.”
Step 2: Invocation of Thor
Stand before the altar, holding your chalice of mead.
Speak clearly and with conviction:
“Hail Thor, son of the Earth, defender of Asgard and Midgard alike! With hammer raised and heart of fire, you strike fear into chaos and grant peace to your people.Be welcome in this sacred space, and hear this offering of thanks and strength.”
Pour a small libation onto the earth or into a bowl, symbolizing the union between storm and soil.
Step 3: Offering the Symbols
Place the garlic, onion, and leek around the candle flame in a small circle.
Lay the oak leaves or acorns beside your representation of Mjölnir, saying:
“By oak and flame, by sky and storm,May Thor’s protection keep me warm.”
If you have a model goat, hold it aloft or place it before the candle, honoring Thor’s chariot and the steadfast labor of his companions.
Step 4: Libation and Blessing
Raise your chalice again and take a sip of mead, dedicating the first to Thor:
“I drink in your name, O Thunderer,For strength in the year ahead and courage unbroken.”
Pour the remaining liquid into the bowl or onto the ground as an offering.
Step 5: Planting the Oak (Optional)
If you have an acorn or oak sapling, plant it outdoors (or in a pot if space is limited).
As you do, say:
“Root of strength and branch of sky,Grow tall beneath Thor’s watchful eye.”
Step 6: Closing the Rite
Sit quietly before the altar, feeling the grounding presence of Thor’s energy.
When ready, extinguish the candle and say:
“Hail Thor, whose hammer hallows all.My thanks and blessings go with you.May your storm cleanse and your light renew.”
