Honoring Ullr: Embracing Winter’s Strength and Precision
A ritual to invoke Ullr’s guidance and resilience during Yule.

Equipment
- 1 Bow or symbolic arrow (optional Representing Ullr’s mastery of archery.)
- 1 Candle (white or blue)
- 1 Offering bowl
- 1 Small hand mirror or reflective surface
Ingredients
- 1 Sprig Pine or evergreen
- 1 Bundle Sage or cedar optional For cleansing the space.
- 1 Offering Mead ale, or fresh water
- 1 Item Token of skill e.g., an arrowhead or small carved charm
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Sacred Space
- If outdoors, find a quiet spot surrounded by nature. If indoors, set your altar near a window with a view of the winter landscape.
- Cleanse the space by burning sage or cedar, allowing the smoke to purify the area and prepare it for Ullr’s presence.
Step 2: Set the Altar
- Arrange the offering bowl, candle, and symbolic items on your altar.
- Place the pine sprig and the token of skill on the altar as symbols of Ullr’s attributes.
Step 3: Invoke Ullr’s Presence
- Light the candle and focus on its flame, imagining Ullr’s energy radiating through the winter air.
- Speak the following invocation:
- “Ullr, master of the bow and guardian of winter’s domain,We call upon your strength and precision.Guide us through the frosty wilds,Grant us resilience in the face of challenges,And teach us the art of focus and grace.”
Step 4: Offerings to Ullr
- Pour the mead, ale, or water into the offering bowl as a libation for Ullr.
- Hold the pine sprig in your hands and infuse it with your gratitude and intentions, then place it on the altar.
Step 5: Reflection and Connection
- Hold the mirror or reflective surface and gaze into it, envisioning Ullr’s image—a hunter traversing snowy landscapes, a figure of calm yet formidable strength.
- Reflect on the qualities of strength, precision, and resilience you wish to embody during the winter season.
Step 6: Gratitude and Closing
- Thank Ullr for his guidance and strength:
- “Ullr, guardian of the winter’s vigor,We honor your strength and precision.As we journey through this season’s chill,May your guidance be our enduring will.”
- Extinguish the candle and leave the offerings in a natural place as a tribute to Ullr’s wild and untamed domain.
