Introduction
A sun-kissed rite to honor the peak of solar power and the abundance it brings.
The Summer Solstice, or Litha, marks the zenith of the sun’s power. The days are longest, the light is strongest, and the Earth is heavy with bloom and bounty. This is a time to celebrate life, fertility, joy, and illumination—both in the physical and spiritual worlds. The Ritual of Light and Gratitude is a sacred pause amid the revelry, a moment to honor the abundance that surrounds you and offer heartfelt thanks for the energy you’ve cultivated since Yule.
Whether performed in solitude or community, this ritual connects you to the solar fire within, grounding you in joy while preparing you for the return of the waning year.

Honoring the Turning Sun
Litha is the midpoint of the year and the apex of solar influence. In ancient times, fires were lit on hilltops, offerings were cast into sacred wells, and garlands of herbs were woven to protect home and hearth. This sabbat invites us to pause in luminous awareness—neither rushing toward the future nor clinging to the past, but honoring the now.
To fully immerse yourself in the correspondences of Litha:
- Feast, dance, laugh, and revel in your personal harvest.
- Dress in vibrant solar colors—yellow, orange, red, or gold.
- Adorn your altar with sun-aligned crystals like citrine, sunstone, or clear quartz.
- Use herbs and flowers such as St. John’s wort, lavender, rosemary, and calendula.
- Light candles or a bonfire to honor the radiant sun and invoke its life-giving energy.
- Offer your gratitude—to the sun, the land, your guides, and yourself.
Ritual Basics
Before beginning any ritual, it is important to prepare yourself mentally and physically. You may want to take a cleansing bath, or shower, and meditate or perform some grounding exercises to center yourself. Gather any materials you will need, such as candles, incense, and offerings for the forest spirits.
