Introduction
Yule’s Benevolent Maritime Deity
On the ninth day of Yule, we turn our focus to Njordr, the Norse god of the sea, wind, and prosperity. As a member of the Vanir and father of Freyr and Freyja, Njordr embodies calm, generosity, and a deep connection to the maritime and agricultural bounty of the Earth. This ritual celebrates his role in Yule and seeks his blessings for the coming year.

Ritual Basics
Before beginning any ritual, it is important to prepare yourself mentally and physically. You may want to take a cleansing bath, or shower, and meditate or perform some grounding exercises to center yourself. Gather any materials you will need, such as candles, incense, and offerings for the forest spirits.

About Njordr and Yule
Njordr’s connection to the sea and its abundance makes him a significant figure to honor during the cold, introspective season of Yule. His domain extends to seafaring, fishing, and the winds that guide travelers and nourish crops. As a deity of prosperity and calm, Njordr represents the harmony between nature’s cycles and human well-being.
During Yule, Njordr’s spirit of generosity is a reminder to express gratitude for the gifts of the sea and the harvest. Offering mead or barley tea symbolizes the interconnectedness of life, making this ritual an opportunity to honor both the god and the bounty of nature.
